Flex Swoops In With $4.4B to Buy San Diego’s EPC Power—Grid-Forming 800V Inverters Get Bolted Onto the AI Data-Center Power Stack

Summary :

Flex Ltd., the Singapore-headquartered NASDAQ-listed manufacturing solutions company, announced on September 3, 2026 a definitive agreement to acquire San Diego-based EPC Power Corp.—a designer of high-performance power conversion systems and battery-storage inverters—for US$4.4 billion, with closing expected in Q4 2026 subject to regulatory approval.

EPC Power designs and manufactures power conversion systems for data centers, energy storage and microgrids, and holds proprietary Agile Grid Forming™ technology that allows batteries and inverters to actively stabilize an unstable grid instead of passively riding along. Under Flex ownership, EPC folds into the buyer’s Cloud and Power Infrastructure segment; the company plans to pair EPC’s 800-volt architectures and solid-state transformers with Flex’s thermal-management portfolio to offer AI hyperscalers a true “grid-to-chip” power stack. EPC CEO Jim Fusaro said the company “emerged as a U.S. technology leader” over four years, expanding domestic manufacturing capacity nearly tenfold with backing from Goldman Sachs Alternatives and Cleanhill Partners. Goldman Sachs & Co. and J.P. Morgan Securities acted as EPC’s financial advisors. The deal is timed to a moment when Flex CEO Revathi Advaithi has repeatedly flagged “power availability as the gating factor for data-center growth” as AI workloads push density and grid-instability risk to new highs.

Why Selected:

The single highest-signal M&A of the day: a $4.4B all-cash carve-in of a power-electronics IP house (grid-forming inverters, 800V, solid-state transformers) directly into a $30B+ EMS platform—the cleanest live read on how AI data-center power scarcity is now reshaping M&A logic in industrials.
