LG Electronics Kicks Off Mass Production of 5G Release-16 Telematics for a Premium European Automaker—12 Antennas Squeezed Into One Box for the SDV Era

Summary :

LG Electronics announced on August 18, 2026 the start of mass production of a 5G Release-16 Automotive Telematics Solution integrating up to 12 antennas into a single unit, with first deployment inside production vehicles of a premium European automaker.

The solution consolidates what has historically been separate antenna hardware and communication modules into a single package, cutting complexity, weight and system cost while freeing packaging space for other electronic control units. It runs on LG’s proprietary Automotive Telematics Platform (ATP), a software stack the company has refined for more than a decade, and is engineered to support software-defined-vehicle (SDV) features including over-the-air updates, V2X (vehicle-to-everything) communications and high-bandwidth data links needed for autonomous-driving perception and remote diagnostics. The hardware is validated for the wide temperature and vibration envelope of automotive-grade duty. Eun Seok-hyun, President of LG Vehicle Solution Company, said “LG will continue to deliver integrated telematics solutions optimized for the SDV era.” Third-party market tracker TechInsights ranks LG at the top of the global automotive telematics market, and this Release-16 milestone is designed to lock in that position as OEMs move from 4G LTE-connected models to 5G-native architectures.

Why Selected:

A rare “single-supplier locks in premium European OEM at 5G R16 mass-production” milestone—concrete evidence that Korean tier-1s are winning the SDV/telematics packaging race against traditional European suppliers exactly as the industry’s 4G→5G swap gathers pace.
