Cboe Closes Sale of Cboe Australia to TMX Group, Sharpening Its Focus on Core Markets and Asia-Pacific Growth

Summary :

Cboe Global Markets, Inc. announced on August 2, 2026 that it has completed the previously announced sale of its Australian equities and equity-options business, Cboe Australia, to TMX Group Limited, in a move designed to align capital and resources with the company’s core long-term priorities.

The divestiture is part of a broader portfolio review announced in April 2026 in which Cboe also outlined plans to sell its Cboe Canada equities business, another step toward simplifying its international footprint. Prashant Bhatia, Executive Vice President and Head of Enterprise Strategy at Cboe, stated that the sale “allows us to further align our organization and capital with our long-term priorities” and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to the Asia-Pacific region, where it will continue to operate Cboe Japan alongside its U.S. derivatives, cash equities, FX and digital-asset franchises. Financial terms were not disclosed. The transaction eliminates a sub-scale local exchange operation for Cboe while giving Toronto-based TMX Group a foothold in the Australian equities market, expanding TMX’s multi-asset international ambitions. For Cboe, the closing effectively concludes its Australian chapter and completes one of the most visible pieces of the group’s ongoing global-portfolio streamlining.

Why Selected:

A cross-border exchange asset changing hands between two listed operators is a rare event—Cboe’s move telegraphs both a global consolidation trend and a strategic pivot toward Asia-Pacific through Cboe Japan.
